Wood Firing For Beginners: 4 Days

Beginning Woodfiring Workshop with Joe Robinson 

11 people max. Indoor/Outdoor. Beginner friendly.

4 consecutive days plus unloading.

Prep: March 3, 11:00-5:00

Load/fire: March 4-6

Included:

-5 cubic feet of firing space, bring your bisque.

-Copy of the East Creek Handbook incl. written materials reccomendations

-Full day of pot prep instruction in the studio

-Saturday night shared dinner

-Camping (tent or car) for workshop, firing, and unloading

-unloading on Saturday, March 12, 2022 with optional celebration after.

Local accomodations are available for a reasonable rate at the Wildwood Hotel in Willamina.

Join Joe Robinson for four days of instruction and firing in an intimate setting. With just 12 crew members including Joe, this is your chance to get hands on experience making decisions and firing a wood kiln while making a significant amount of work. 

All you need to do is bring your bisque (most buff stoneware works but cone 10 clay is preferred) and yourself, and everything else you need is provided, including wadding, glaze, and kiln sundries. 

On thursday, a day of pot prep in the East Creek studio is included, with both lecture and hands on style insrruction. 

On Friday we will share in the loading of the kiln and light with a small gas burner on Friday night.

Early Saturday morning we will begin stoking wood and continue through shut down sometime on Sunday night, including the introduciton of soda sometime on Sunday. 

On Saturday night we'll enjoy a shared dinner, menu TBD based on participants. Think hearty braised stew, new spring greens, fresh baked bread, and local wines. 

On Saturday March 12 at 11:00a, we’ll unload the kiln and work together to clean up and grind shelves. Then, stay for an optional celebration and bonfire.
