Join Mark Terry for a special firing of his MountainCat catenary arch kiln. Mark is Emeritus Professor of Art at George Fox University and has been a fixture in the Oregon wood firing community for decades. This luxury firing experience includes a curated food and wine menu highlighting the shared nature of breaking bread and wood firing. Mark is well connected in the gourmet food and wine industry and an expert in the building and firing of kilns; for those seeking an intimate experience of Oregon hospitality and woodfiring, this event is not to be missed. 

The Mountaincat Kiln is located on the Breithaupt homestead, just over the peak of Chehalem Mountain, about 7 miles and 15 minutes’ drive from the Chahalem Cultural Center, host of the 2022 NWW Wood Firing Conference. We recommend lodging with any of a number of very comfortable air bnb options in the area. 

Participants arrange with Mark to ship work ahead, or bring work glazed and ready for loading. We will wad on-site. All work must be bisque fired prior to loading. 

Friday, May 27

Arrive in Newberg

Begin loading Chehalem MountainCat at noon.

Dusk: light kiln, toast for auspicious beginning with sparkling wine from local vintners.

Saturday, May 28

Fire through day

Dusk: alder plank-fired salmon with chef David Harrelson, accompanied by the exquisite and

exclusive wines of Cathy Redman.

Sunday, May 29

Fire through day

Dusk: sample big Southern Oregon Super Tuscan from Cliff Creek winery, accompanied by pizza

woodfired onsite by your host Mark.

Monday May 30

Fire through day

Dusk: campfire skillet cookery with renowned Chef Cabellero, accompanied by a selection of big

reds from local wineries.
