Throwing BIG Masterclass: 7 Day Intensive

8 people max. Indoor/Outdoor. Beginner friendly.

Join Joe Robinson for a week's worth of throwing BIG. Joe has been throwing pots for over 20 years and regularly produces works in excess of 40 inches. Joe holds an MFA from Oregon College of Art and Craft and teaches workshops at East Creek and around the country. Check out eastcreekart.org/joe or @eastcreekjoe on Instagram to see some of his work.

During the workshop, you'll have the chance to watch demos and execute works under Joe's (gentle) guidance. We'll work on throwing larger one part pots up to 20 inches and attaching sections and coils to make works of virtually unlimited scale. We'll also have an "evening films" event where we watch several master potters work to examine a range of making methods and compare with those of the group and Joe.

This is the highlight of the summer and is the most advanced and through instruction available in 2023. 2022's workshop was a hit and each of us successfully made the largest pot of our lives, including Joe. This year we hope to continue that trend with a 300 lb pot.

A note for beginners: beginners are welcome in this workshop, but if you're a beginner, we suggest considering one of the throwing for beginners workshops as a first step. You'll get more out of the advanced instruction if you already have some beginning instruciton under your belt. However, if you're patient, have reasonable expectations, and want to see some cool stuff, nothing is cooler than seeing 5 foot pots getting stacked up!

note: bisque firing is included, but glaze firing is not. You can choose to continue the process with us at East Creek, or take your bisque home to finish at your local shared studio.
