The Traditional Anagama Workshop with Joe Robinson

10 people max. Indoor/Outdoor. Beginner friendly.

2 days making, plus Nov. firing

Making and instruction: September 24-25

Anagama Load/Fire: November 5-13 

Unloading: Saturday, November 26

Included:

-2 days of making in the East Creek Studio

-25 lbs clay 

-Bisque Firing for work made during studio weekend.

-Anagama firing for work made during studio weekend up to 2 CF

-Copy of the East Creek Handbook incl. written materials reccomendations

-Camping (tent or car) for making workshop, firing, and unloading

Local accomodations are available for a reasonable rate at the Wildwood Hotel in Willamina.

Join Joe Robinson for a look at the history and traditions of the Anagama wood burning kiln, studio making time, and a community firing of the 40' East Creek Anagama in November. 

During the making retreat, you'll get instruction in materials and execution, along with the historical context of the anagama and the forms typical to the kiln. You'll also receive instruction in making several traditional forms including:

-wheel thrown teacups, chawan and guinomi (Japan)

-kurinuki carved vessels (Japan)

-pinched and coiled jars: onngi and moon (Korea)

-weed pipes (USA)

On Saturday night September 24, we'll have make-your-own wood fired pizza with provided dough, sauce and cooking help- bring your own toppings and beverages.

During the firing in November, you'll be invited to observe and participate in the community firing of our 40 foot wood burning Anagama kiln. You will be welcome to participate in as much or as little of the firing as you're able, though we ask that you do come to the firing at least once and the unloading to retreive your wares.
