About the event

Pottery Tool Making: Wood, Metal, Clay: 2 Days

10 people max. Indoor/Outdoor. Beginner friendly.

Saturday September 2, 2023 10:00a- Sunday September 3, 2023 5:00p.

Join Josh Kehrberg, East Creek's studio manager, for a 2 day tool making workshop in which you will make your own set of pottery tools to take home at the end of the weekend. Using wood, metal, and ceramic, make a variety of tools that includes the tools you're used to, and mabe some that you've never seen before! Utilize East Creek's robust wood and metal shop tool set to make super high quality tools that you'll cherish for years.

No experience using wood or metal shop tools is required to join this workshop. Some prior knowledge of pottery tools is assumed since you'll want to have some tool designs in mind. That might mean making your own version of popular tools from brands like Kemper and Mud Tools, or it might mean finally having that perfect bowl-making rib you've always seen in your head! The workshop will include conversation and planning period in which you'll sketch out the tools you'd like to make.

All materials are included. That means you'll select from a variety of beautiful, pre-sanded hardwood project boards of various species sourced from a professional wood working shop. If you'd like to bring your own wood you are most welcome to do that. If you want to bring you own wood, any re-sawing should already be complete and your wood pieces should be in the form of 1/4-1/2" thick project boards that can be cut, shaped, and finished using a band saw, a japanese saw, and a belt sanding table. Metal and clay are slightly trickier so we ask that you do not bring your own metal or clay, we'll provide all you need.
