East Creek is a 20 acre forest art studio and retreat center located in Oregon's coastal mountains about 60 miles SW of Portland.

ONE OF A KIND FORMS  

Peter Callas’ 50 years in ceramics earned him a worldwide reputation for both his pioneering work with the Anagama kiln and his unique, poetic, and expressionist style.  At this two-day hands-on workshop Peter will teach the art of “One of Kind Forms” using on and off wheel construction. His hand building approach emphasizes how to deal with clay’s expressionistic challenges of constructing sculptural objects as well as Peter’s artful and inspirational techniques abstracting wheel thrown vessels.  Peter’s PowerPoint presentation will discuss his aesthetics, inspirations in life and his 50 years firing an Anagama kiln.

A film premier of his 2022 documentary “CALLAS: LIFE ON FIRE.”  Callas will also discuss his 23-year collaboration with Peter Voulkos and show the 1993 film on “Voulkos the Lost Tapes” 

An intimate presentation and rewarding experience for participants at all levels, his spirited approach will help students handle clay in new and exciting ways.

Workshop Schedule

-You'll arrive at the beautiful East Creek Art Studio on Saturday morning, May 28 at 10:00a.

-The morning will start with coffee, pastries, introductions, and presentation time with Peter in the studio.

-Lunch is on your own (bring a sack lunch or use our kitchen to heat something up), and you'll have the opportunity to visit a firing of a catenary arch wood kiln also happening on the East Creek property.

-Saturday afternoon will consist of clay demos and studio time, followed by an evening premier screening of the 2022 documentary "CALLAS: LIFE ON FIRE" and shared meal, menu TBD.

-Sunday we'll be back in the studio working with clay and resolving ideas in an intimate studio setting.

-The workshop concludes Sunday at 4:30. Camping at East Creek is free; local accommodations are available. East Creek's well equipped outdoor kitchen is available for your use.

Covid Policy: East Creek requires COVID-19 vaccinations for all program participants over 18 years old. A vaccination exemption will be granted with a signed letter from a Medical Doctor only. We follow the recomendations of the Oregon Health Authority and mandates from the Governer's Office. Masks will be required onsite when Oregon Health Authority guidance requires it. We ask all participants to practice social distancing.
