Advanced Raku: Making and Firing

Join Joe Robinson for a 3 day Raku, Horsehair, and Saggar workshop at East Creek.

Have a raku kiln of your own? Bring it and I’ll show you how to fire it. 

Day 1: Making day. See throwing demos by Joe in the AM, then have the day in the studio to make work. We’ll load the bisque kilns Wednesday evening for completion on Thursday evening. 

Day 2: Raku kiln building and firing instruction. Each participant will receive one bisqued pot from Joe for glazing and firing experiments. You are welcome to bring your own bisque including test tiles. 

Day 3: Fire your own work and control the kiln. Each person will be given the reins on one raku firing in a small kiln. You’ll practice listening to the kiln, watching the pots, and being in charge and in control of a firing.

We’ll make wood fired pizza on Wednesday night, BYO toppings. We’ll do an open fire grill on Thursday night, BYO meats/veggies/kebabs for grilling. Help and guidance will be provided with both meals.

All materials will be provided, including 25lb clay, bisquing, glaze, and raku firing. Extra materials and/or firing space can be purchased during the workshop. Camping is included, pizza dough/sauce included. Bring your own pizza toppings, grill items, and beverages. Think like you're camping.
