About the event

Morning Ceramics Woodfiring Workshop with Joe Robinson

10 people max. Indoor/Outdoor. Beginner friendly.

Instruction time at Morning Ceramics: Sat Oct. 2 10:00a-4:00p

Wood Firing at East Creek (you choose how much time to spend in these windows):

-Loading: Saturday Nov. 6

-Firing: Nov. 9-14

-Unload Saturday, November 27

*Please plan on attending for at least one, 8 hour kiln firing shift*

Join Joe Robinson, co-owner of the East Creek property and Linfield University Art Faculty, for a two part wood firing workshop starting off with instruction in the Morning Ceramics Studio in Portland, and culminating in participating in TWO concurrent wood firings in the fall, one in the Anagama and one in the new Catenary Arch kiln.

During our Saturday, October 2 session, we'll meet at Morning Ceramics Studio for instructional time where you'll learn the basics from Joe, get materials information, see demos and finished pots, and have a chance to ask questions. There's no provision for studio making time on that day but Morning studio members will be welcome to make along with the demos, if desired.

Then, you'll have a month to take what you've learned and make up to 4 cubic feet of work for wood firing at East Creek (a $200 value) in two kilns concurrently. For reference, that's about 40% of a large 1227 electric kiln.

You'll be invited to attend the kiln loading on the weekend of November 6, the firing week/weekend on November 9-14, and the unloading on Novemebr 27 (this is Thanskgiving weekend). COVID willing, you will be welcome to bring guests to the unloading. We know, that's a lot of days of activity. Your responsibility is to ensure your pots arrive at East Creek by 9:30 am on Saturday November 6. Everything else is flexible depending on your personal schedule- we do ask that you do one 8 hour firing shift, but that's probably why you're here!

Optionally, you can stop by our October 22-24 catenary firing to check it out and meet the crew. Details will be provided at the Portland session.
