Carving Hand-built and Thrown Forms: 2 Days 

12 people max. Indoor/Outdoor. Beginner friendly with advance material. 

Saturday, August 5, 10:00a- Sunday August 6, 5:00p. 

Join Aubrey Sloan at East Creek for a 2 day making and carving weekend, focusing on carving with DiamondCore Tools and other studio tools. We will demo carving on both thrown and hand built forms to create textures, imagery, and using carving in the Japense kurinuki (hollowing out) style to create forms.  We will explore numerous hand building techniques including pinching, kurinuki vessels, coil building, and using a sureform to refine and shape your pieces. We will also discuss clay moisture levels, and considerations when carving your work.

Day One in the morning, we will work in the studio doing various demos, and discussing the tools and surfaces you would like to explore during the workshop. In the afternoon we will continue with demos, and have making time and instructor support to create pieces you would like to carve.

Day Two in the morning, we will start in the studio finishing, trimming, and carving pieces. The afternoon, we will plan to walk down to East Creek, and enjoy some creekside carving demos, and work time. There will be tables and chair set up for working on your pieces outside for the afternoon.

Everything is provided for you to make and carve your work at East Creek including DiamondCore Carving Tools and various other tools. You're welcome to bring your own tools or materials, as well as leather hard peices ready to carve, if you'd prefer to spend most of the weekend solely carving. We're happy to fire outside clay at the East Creek studio. 

***There will be no throwing demos or instruction, but the wheels will be avaible for making work for carving. If you already have throwing skills, and would like to create thrown work to carve that will be avaible during the workshop,  and welcomed. 

On Saturday night we'll have a shared meal on the grill.
